A true gem in Mussoorie!

Amidst the queen of hills - Mussoorie, we found our perfect retreat at Ilbert Manor.  Transported back in time at Ilbert Manor, where the fusion of colonial architecture and old-world charm created an enchanting haven.  The 183-year-old heritage boutique hotel is a hidden paradise nestled amidst majestic oak trees and lush greenery. The boutique hotel welcomed us with its regal charm and luxurious amenities. From the moment we stepped inside, we were captivated by the elegance that surrounded us. From the intricately carved ceilings to the elegant furnishings, every detail exuded grandeur and sophistication.  As we explored the hospitality of Ilbert Manor, we also got to live the rich history. The hotel has been painstakingly restored over a period of seven years and offers 14 well appointed and elegant rooms. The colonial architecture and old-world feel of teak floors and primeval wooden paneling with the breathtaking back drop of snowy hilltops added to our experience. We loved our stay at the Imperial room which was spacious and elegant and had a view to cherish. The room was beautifully appointed, exuding a timeless grandeur that blended seamlessly with modern comforts - High ceilings, large bathrooms, wooden flooring. The cozy little balcony opened to a breathtaking view of snowy hilltops. Even a walk in their garden was mesmerising. The tranquility and charm of this place is simply captivating. The food here needs a special mention. We had a variety of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner and we truly enjoyed every dish. It was simple yet delicious, with each dish bursting with flavors and prepared with utmost care reminding me of homemade food.  The hospitality is top notch too. Infact, the Ilbert Manor team focuses to offer personalized services for its guests. The attentive staff took care of our every need, ensuring that our stay was nothing short of perfection.  Situated on the bustling Mall Road, I was immersed in the vibrant energy of Mussoorie, with shops, cafes, and scenic views just steps away. When I needed a break, the gaming room provided hours of entertainment with billiards, chess, and carrom. Different vintage elements from vintage letter envelopes with postage stamp to pictures on walls add to the charm of this place. Ilbert Manor is a true haven for those seeking tranquility, indulgence, and a touch of old-world charm. If you're looking for a unique getaway, I highly recommend Ilbert Manor in Mussoorie! Ilbert Manor is a true gem in Mussoorie offering a staycation experience that is nothing short of extraordinary.

Nice and Peaceful stay, though close to the over crowded Mall.

Ilbert Manor in Mussoorie, is a comfortable Hotel to stay in. staff was okay. The approach to the Hotel is from the overcrowded Mall road, by a very narrow, steep and winding road. The Hotel provided us a pickup and drop from and to The Mall when ever we wanted one. The vegitarian and chicken food is very good, though the mutton dish which was served to us hardly had any mutton and had offals which was not at all good. Our rooms had modern furniture. Clean rooms. The corridors had comfortable sofas and chairs. There were Antique plates and memorabilia kept in showcases. Very quiet and peaceful. Lovely flowers in the driveway.

This is a decent mid-budget Manor stay / hotel in a great location in Mall road. I enjoyed our anniversary weekend here, even though I had a couple of complaints. AMBIENCE: It's just a short walk away to mall road but quiet and scenic, with the same view as the one you get on Camelback road. The building is, as you can see from the pics, old world charm with a nice history behind it (this is the summer home of Sir Courtenay Pergine Ilbert, who drafted the controversial Ilbert Bill and inadvertently played a part in the birth of Indian National Congress - google to know more!). It's also quiet and serene around, despite being just a stone's throw from chaotic Mall road.  ROOMS: We booked early and got the Fanny Parks suite that had the best view. So glad we did this. It was so cold during our stay, we spent most of our time in the room, gazing at the beautiful Himalayan peaks. Pleasing interiors, good storage, spacious room, attached toilet was also quite spacious. Bed was very comfortable. Wifi was pretty decent. There were frequent power cuts but came back in a few minutes.  FOOD: The breakfast buffet included in room tarriff is strictly functional and is there to fill your stomach only, not for taste; I could not really say anything more than that. Personally I preferred to order from room service, available 10am to 10pm. Made to order stuff from this hotel is really good. We ate most dinners from the hotel's kitchen as it was very cold to go out, and the room service was quick and delicious. They make a mean lemon tea, served in pretty flasks and cutlery.  STAFF: Staff are very helpful and always had a smile for us. We could see them working diligently.  Since my pidgin hindhi is not of much help, I asked the hotel well ahead to arrange airport pick up for us and they replied instantly, recommending a local driver and asked us to book him directly; we did, with the help of Google translate, and everything went well. We did get a small shock as the cab entered - dropped down - on the incline that leads to the hotel. Reminded us of a mini rollercoaster. LOCATION: 5 min walk downhill from Library Chowk. The walk uphill will be a challenge unless you are fit, but it is good for health, so no complaint there, esp since there is free shuttle also. Main complaints 1. My biggest complaint is the room temperature that was in single digits all our stay. One heater was not enough - you can't have more either. Since this is a heritage property, the room can have only one room heater (the wiring load won't bear one more). All rooms have high ceilings, so you can guess the temperature of the room. Try using the toilet at 2am when it is minus 5 outside! The shower cubicle ought to be covered on top too, otherwise you are just shivering the minute the shower ends. Not fun. Food will go ice cold in 5 min. In winter, you better layer up. If you cannot bear the cold indoors, either book Ilbert manor in non-winter months or opt for modern hotels that have centralised heating. 2. We stayed during christmas, but there was no festive decoration. No stars or lights or decorative foliage, no xmas music, no christmas feeling at all. I feel like this is such a wasted opportunity. I hate to say this about the staff because they all did their best and were sincere, but honestly this is on the mgmt, not staff - mgmt must take the initiative to train the staff to go beyond the functional. No one oriented us when we arrived, I didn't even know there was a library and billiards rooms in the hotel, no one told us. Ilber Manor is a beautiful property, which needs the touch of a visionary marketing and development dept. The infrastructure is already there, the manpower needs to scale up. There is SO MUCH scope for this place to become a luxury stay or even a boutique stay. But looks like the owners' goal is not that, just to do the minimum. Pity. This place can win awards if only they offer a bit more - like, proper tour packages, signages, proper breakfast ambience. .  Still, I won't hesitate to recommend this place, it is a very good option for the money you pay. Give it a try, esp in non-winter months. You won't regret it.

This hotel is an excellent property serving delicious food and having an excellent view but the only negative point is the approach. The hotel is on the mall road but downhill 150 metres steep descent. You can not take your car to the hotel as the entrance from Mussorie Mall Road is too narrow. My car just escaped getting damaged trying to enter the passage. Small cars like the hatchbacks and sedans can enter easily not recommended for big suv or luxury sedans. The staff is very friendly and cooperative. They would drop us to the mall road in the car and even pick us up but if you ask me I would prefer a hotel on the mall road so I can venture out easily without any trouble plus had to shell out extra for parking 3 days which otherwise would have been avoidable.

Ilbert Manor, Old world charm at its best

We stayed at the Ilbert Manor, Mussoorie from 3rd to 8th. There were five of us across 3 rooms on the first floor, with a view to die for. The manager Mr Jeevan was extremely helpful, and the staff consisting of Deva, Sachin, Gokul and Shankar ensured prompt, efficient and smiling service at all times. We preferred to have dinner on all five nights in the hotel and their food was simple, freshly made and tasty although there was limited choice. We liked the Tandoor items and the home made chicken curry was yummy. The cozy restaurant offers a classy ambience and is the right place for a leisurely drink with the family, after an end to end walk of the mall road. The hotel is bang at the start of the mall road on the Library side although around 200 metres below. It’s a sharp descent and enjoyable to walk down but climbing up from the hotel to the mall road across the steep slope leaves one panting for breath. The staff was extremely kind to drop us up the mall road twice daily in their car as we went around enjoying the scenery in and around Mussoorie. The hotel building is a 180 year old structure tastefully restored and the chandeliers, wood paneling and the red carpet transform you into a bygone era full of old world charm. The rooms are comfortable, with warm water and a heater to take care of the pleasantly cold weather. The day temperatures during our stay ranged from 10-16C and plummeted during the night to 3C. We woke up to breathtaking views of the snow capped Himalaya in the background and the beautifully rugged Shivalik range in the foreground. The restaurant and the breakfast room are very classy and it’s a pleasure to dine there as the service is superb. The lawn at the back of the hotel is a very pleasant place to spend evenings with the family. Thank you for giving us memories of a lifetime, we will always treasure our stay at Ilford Manor. Cheers Dr Amit Rangnekar
